Gender, Globalization and Aesthetic Surgery in South Korea Essay
Gender, Globalization and Aesthetic Surgery in South Korea - Essay Example is influenced by a hybrid of intersecting factors like negotiation between national and global standards of beauty, national identity, official and unofficial religious discourses, caring for oneself, aging, quest for social status and traditional attributes as opposed to the generally held notion that cosmetic surgery is only two-fold; as a feminist issues and as undesired effect of influence from westernization. The authors present this argument by questioning the previous research done on the field of cosmetic surgery. The author has used different types of evidence to support his central argument. The major types of evidence used are statistical and judgment evidence. Statistical evidence is used to annul the notion that cosmetic surgery is a feminine issue. Drawing from official statistics, the author reveals that male patients make 10% of the total cosmetic surgery patients. Furthermore, according to Morgan (1991:30), the number is higher ranging between 30 and 40%. The most interesting thing with the convectional research is that, despite the increased number of male patients seeking the services of cosmetic surgeons, men have been left out of the discussion making the issue sound solely feminine. Judgment evidence has been used to dispel the notion that Korean cosmetic patients are exclusively influenced by western effects. The authors have been able to make concrete inferences by drawing on the official facts and figure. Cosmetic surgery has been taken to signify a strong sense of indigenous identify as an individual has a mixture of both global and national beauty attributes. Furthermore, taking a few beauty aspects from different cultures demonstrates access to wider cosmopolitan identify with a more global perspective also informed by the local knowledge of concepts and beauty. The authors have presented a well-researched and coherent piece of work. This work is well informed and largely avoids cases of bias by many instances of statistical evidence.

Commentary on Women Beware Women Essay Example for Free
Commentary on Women Beware Women Essay Beware Women is a Jacobean tragedy, which has a complex plot and deals with corrupted characters. This tragedy is about corruption in the court and life in general, love by money and how women can lead other women to destruction. As Tricomi states about the characters, they ââ¬Ëare not wholly the product of their circumstances, but their circumstances condition their choices and propel them toward their destinyââ¬â¢. Middleton, as other Jacobean playwrights before him, has managed to point out that ââ¬Ëaristocratic life is brutal and corruptââ¬â¢. 2] The focus of this commentary will be concentrated on marriage and to what can lead one to fall apart. The first scene (Act I), deals with the characters of the playââ¬â¢s main plot: Leantio, Bianca and the Mother. In this scene, the readers come across with the insulting behaviour towards Bianca, where she is treated as an object. Leantio speaks of his wife with words of business, to him she is ââ¬Å"the most unvaluedââ¬â¢st purchaseâ⬠.He describes her as if she was a dangerous object that must stay hidden and safe, away from the sight of men. When he talks about her, it is obvious that Bianca is for him a treasure and he is the thief that now has to hide his ââ¬Å"best piece of theftâ⬠(I. ii) in a safe place so no one will steal it from him. Such words describing a human being are rather cruel, especially when Leantio is talking about a person for whom he is supposed to have true and pure feelings of love. Leantio is aware that Biancaââ¬â¢s family is rich, but he also knows that by marrying Bianca in secrecy and taking her away from them, Bianca will lose all of the property and money that belongs to her. He has also written over to her his house and put his mother in jeopardy. Although his act seems a romantic one and, even though he speaks of that relationship and feelings as being pure, his love is not mature; rather, it is one filled with jealousy. In the beginning of the play Bianca could be characterised as the victim because she has a mother-in-law who is not fond of her and does not approve their marriage and she is now imprisoned in poverty and in home. However, Bianca is ââ¬Ëas much a victim as perpetrator, and she is to be judged as a tragic protagonist with a vexing mix of virtues and flawsââ¬â¢. [3] As seen in the plot, the Mother aids and abets in Biancaââ¬â¢s meeting with the Duke. The Mother and Livia hatched up a plan for Biancaââ¬â¢s rape and she falls into the trap, as Isabella did, but the rape was almost enticed on her part. ââ¬ËThe attitude towards Bianca is one of dehumanizing possession and manipulationââ¬â¢. [4] But Bianca, after that, changes drastically and soon enough she becomes one of the most corrupted characters, who along with others, brings about the downfall and the final bloodshed in the play. Bianca chose money over her marriage, although, she blames the other women for her disaster. ââ¬ËTreachery and betrayal [ ] are Biancaââ¬â¢s terms of explanation for her downfallââ¬â¢. [5] Bianca is seen by her mother-in-law as an added burden to her sonââ¬â¢s finances. The Motherââ¬â¢s interest is focused only on money. For the Mother, Bianca as a wife has nothing to offer, she will only demand and receive. The Mother is sizing up the economics of their situation now that there are three members in the family. Leantio can barely support himself, and up until now he had to support his mother as well. The Mother doubts that her son is able to support a family of three. She claims that nothing can save him from this financial dead end by saying ââ¬Å"My life can give you But little helps, and my death lesser hopesâ⬠(I. i). The Mother thinks of Bianca, as for every other wife, that she will require from Leantio ââ¬Å"maintenanceâ⬠(I. ii) fitting to her ââ¬Å"birth and virtuesâ⬠(I. ii), but also gratification of her desire for ââ¬Å"affections, wills, and humoursâ⬠(I. ii). [6] Leantio then expresses his intentions towards Bianca, by replying to his motherââ¬â¢s words, pleading with her not to ââ¬Å"teach her to rebelâ⬠(I. ii) now that ââ¬Å"sheââ¬â¢s in a good way to obedienceâ⬠(I. ii). Leantioââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"assuranceâ⬠(I. ii), of keeping his ââ¬Å"jewelâ⬠(I. ii) locked away ââ¬Å"from all menââ¬â¢s eyesâ⬠(I. ii), is his mother. She is the one who holds the ââ¬Å"keyâ⬠(I. i) to his ââ¬Å"treasureâ⬠(I. ii), and ââ¬Å"old mothersâ⬠(I. ii) are ââ¬Å"good to look to keysâ⬠(I. ii) when ââ¬Å"sons lock chestsâ⬠(I. ii). However, the irony here is that later on, itââ¬â¢s the Mother herself who pushes Bianca towards rape with the Duke, first to get rid of her, but then to accrue some of the benefits from the court life for herself and her son. Bianca is to Leantio nothing but an object of ââ¬Å"great valueâ⬠(I. ii), a ââ¬Å"matchless jewelâ⬠(I. ii) that he has stolen. Because ââ¬Å"temptation is a devil will not stick to fasten upon a saintâ⬠(I. ii), Leantioââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"gemâ⬠(I. ii) must stay hidden and locked. This is the ââ¬Å"great policyâ⬠(I. i) for Leantio in order to never lose a treasure; never ââ¬Å"show thieves our wealthâ⬠(I. ii). Bianca is the ââ¬Å"treasureâ⬠(I. ii), Leantio is the ââ¬Å"thiefâ⬠(I. ii), and the ââ¬Å"keyâ⬠(I. ii) to his happiness holds his mother, thus, it could be said that the chest with the key is symbolic of Leantio and Biancaââ¬â¢s relationship. To conclude, this tragedy proves that women should beware women. Women lead other women to destruction, and are even responsible for another womanââ¬â¢s rape. Corruption and enemies are present everywhere but, as Bianca says in her dying breath, ââ¬Å"Like our own sex, we have no enemyâ⬠.

Death in T.S. Eliots The Wasteland and Maddys No Past, No Present, No Future :: Death Eliot Maddy Wasteland Future Past Essays
Death in T.S. Eliot's The Wasteland and Maddy's No Past, No Present, No Future Death is an inevitable fact that everyone experiences at some point in their lives. Whether it is losing a friend, family member, someone famous and well known, or finally themselves, everyone knows what it's like to deal with the topic of death. In The Wasteland T. S Eliot is describing death with a very different approach which makes death seem poetic yet very dreary and uninviting. On the other hand, in Yulisa Amadu Maddy's book No Past, No Present, No Future death is not poetic at all but very cold and melancholy. In No Past, No Present, No Future three boys become best friends and later their friendship is torn apart from the inside out until it finally dies. It began when Joe Bengoh came to live with Ade John and Santigie Bombalai after his parents died. That was the first death that Joe experienced. The second death affected both Joe and Ade when a girl Mary died. Mary was a prostitute who Joe lost his virginity to, and then afterwards Ade had sex with her. Mary claimed to be pregnant with Ade's child, and she committed suicide trying to abort the baby. Since Ade came from an elite and prestigious family his parents took him out of school and practically disowned him for disgracing their family name. That changed Ade's life from there on out because he was now alone and he wasn't going to let that mistake ruin all his dreams of becoming powerful and rich and wealthy. Joe was affected also by Mary's death because he held a deep sense of anger towards Ade for even having sex with the girl in front of him and later on down the road Mary's death has some part in tearing Joe and Ade apart. Santigie also experienced death, and that was the death of his father who was the chief of his tribe. That death hurt him deeply because when his father died, he left the position of chief not to Santigie but to his uncle. Also, when his father died, he had to quit school at the Mission and begin working like Ade had, because his mother couldn't afford to keep him in school anymore. When Santigie left the Mission Joe Bengoh was all alone and turned to things that shaped his future. Death in T.S. If I Were a Doctor Essay
For a sick person, a doctor is a God on earth. The very presence of doctor instills immense confidence in a patient. But, today doctors are found to be indifferent to their patients. However, we find then inhumane these days. How could patients look up to them as the incarnations of God! I feel that the general image of doctors has taken a beating in the eyes of general public the public has realized much to dismay that doctors are now only interested in minting money and have lost the real touch with the fellow human beings and the humane life. It is true that individuals have become money-spinning machines, but the doctors who once represented God should have stayed out of the melee. This has not happened vilifying the avocation as any other profession. If I were a doctor, I would try to recover the lost image of doctors, at the outset. My prime objective shall remain identifying myself with the host of patients. This could mobilize me behave humanely with them. Next, instead of keeping an eye on the amount of money spent for the treatment, I shall try to cure the patient fully without bothering how much had been paid for the service. I would also take money and lots of which from the very rich, and then treat the poor patients free. With this balancing act, I think I would be able to earn enough money to maintain my life and family and earn a sea of goodwill in return, from the appreciable mass of poor. I would earn, besides money, love, respect, and the unflinching reverence. Thus, contrary to what doctors could earn these days, about heaps of money, I would earn love and respect in such heaps. With this attitude, I am sure I could bring back the angel status of doctors.

Electrical Substation
1. INTRODUCTION Electrical substation for distribution system is the main supply to convert the high voltage (HV) to low voltage (LV) and the place where load are distributed to the consumers. In Malaysia, Tenaga Nasional Berhad Distribution (TNBD) used the 33/0. 433kV, 22/0. 433kV, 11/0. 433kV and 6. 6/0. 433kV voltage system for the electrical system to supply for domestic consumer and industrial consumer such as factory which will supplied directly from Transmission Main Intakes (PMU), Main Distribution Sub ââ¬âstation (PPU) or Main Switch Sub ââ¬â station (SSU).Electrical substation is the place where all electrical equipments such as high voltage switching, three phase transformer, high voltage cables, low voltage cables, low voltage feeder pillar, battery charging and etc which are used for electrical supplying in power system and to make sure the safety of the system by the protection scheme. Basically, electrical system have one or several in coming and out going circ uit which are controlled by high voltage switching and meet in one or more in the same of busbar system.Generally, electrical substation is a point in distribution system where: * A place where several electrical equipments are installed and used for electrical energy in power system. * A place where the safety of the system is provides by automatically protection scheme. * A place where one or several incoming and outgoing circuit are met at one or more busbar system and controlled by high voltage switching equipment which is used for switching. * A place where voltage value is changed and controlled. A place where load are distributed, controlled and protected FUNCTIONS OF A SUBSTATION * Supply of required electrical power. * Maximum possible coverage of the supply network. * Maximum security of supply. * Shortest possible fault-duration. * Optimum efficiency of plants and the network. 2. OPERATION OF 11 kV MODULAR POWER PLAN LAB Electric power is normally generated at 11-25kV in a power station. To transmit over long distances, it is then stepped-up to 400kV, 220kV or 132kV as necessary. Power is carried through a transmission network of high voltage lines.Usually, these lines run into hundreds of kilometres and deliver the power into a common power pool called the grid. The grid is connected to load centres (cities) through a sub-transmission network of normally 33kV (or sometimes 66kV) lines. These lines terminate into a 33kV (or 66kV) substation, where the voltage is stepped-down to 11kV for power distribution to load points through a distribution network of lines at 11kV and lower. The stepped-down voltage of 11kV is channelled to the RMU(Ring Main Unit) and outgoing feeder of the substation. This is to ensure the continous supply of electricity even during maintenance. The RMU unit is speacially designed that during maintence the affected users will receive supply from a different substation which is interconnected. This is because maintenance have to b e carried out in an ON condition. 3. BLOCK DIAGRAM OF 11kV MODULAR POWER PLAN 4. FUNCTIONS AND MAINTAINENCE OF ALL EQUIPMENTS 5. 1 Switch gear/ circuit breaker In anà electric power system,à switchgearà is the combination of electrical disconnect switches,à fusesà orà circuit breakersà used to control, protect and isolate electrical equipment.Switchgear is used both to de-energize equipment to allow work to be done and to clearà faultsà downstream. This type of equipment is important because it is directly linked to the reliability of theà electricity supply. Typically, the switchgear inà substationsà is located on both the high voltage and the low voltage side of large powerà transformers. The switchgear on the low voltage side of the transformers may be located in a building, with medium-voltage circuit breakers for distribution circuits, along with metering, control, and protection equipment. For industrial applications, aà transformerà and switchgear line-up may be combined in one housing, called a unitizedà substationà or USS. Types of circuit breakers: I. Oil Oil circuit breakers rely upon vaporization of some of the oil to blast a jet of oil through the arc. II. Gas Gas (SF6) circuit breakers sometimes stretch the arc using a magnetic field, and then rely upon the dielectric strength of the SF6à to quench the stretched arc. III. Vacuum Vacuum circuit breakers have minimal arcing (as there is nothing to ionize other than the contact material), so the arc quenches when it is stretched to a very small amount (
